Prerequisites for "Citizenship in the Nation" [scroll down for other badges I teach]

In class we will complete all of requirements 1, 4, 5, and 7.  If you want to finish the badge that day you need to do the following ahead of time:

Req 2: Visit the two sites (or visit one and research one if using option d).  Write 1-2 paragraphs per visit describing what you saw and what you learned.

Req 3: Watch/read the news for five days and keep a log of the top stories each day.  Bring your log with you.

Req 6: Choose and read a historic speech.  Bring a copy along with 1-2 paragraphs discussing who gave it, why it was important at the time.

Req 8: Write the letter and bring a copy with you; bring the answer if you got one, but you don't have to have gotten an answer to get the requirement signed off.

If you don't have a chance to do all of this ahead ahead of time,
don't worry . . . you can finish them later and get them signed off by
me or by a counselor in your troop.

Prerequisites for "Citizenship in the World"

In class we will cover all of Requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. If you want to complete the badge that day, you must complete Requirements 6 & 7 in advance.

Req 1-5: Please read (or at least skim) the merit badge pamphlet in advance. The material for Requirement 4 (we will do parts a & c) is especially important to look at ahead of time.

Req 6 & 7: Please write out your answers for the three sections of Requirement 6 and write out what you learned/saw/did in the two sections of Requirement 7 that you chose. Please write at least a paragraph for each section (that is, at least 5 paragraphs total for the two requirements). Your written work should be your own words, not somebody else's words copied from a website or book ("a scout is honest").

If you don't have a chance to do Requirements 6 & 7 ahead of time, don't worry . . . you can finish them later and get them signed off by me or by a counselor in your troop.
